Cool Tools – Debugging Book
by Andrew McCaskey
I’ll start off with a word of apology for the late start today. Actually, not a late start as far as the posting time, just a late start of the posting that contained the right file name to send SDR along to subscribers. It was one of those 11:30pm events where you make and change and then forget to save the file again – with a resultant pointer to Friday’s program, not Sunday’s . Thanks again to the Bittorrent crew who monitors the swarm takeoff – and found, when they checked this morning, a waiting swarm but no new torrent to take off with. It’s what is known as a best efforts basis – and those efforts come from a number of people who monitor, alert and support the SDR operation each day.
In fact – a few minutes before midnight, thanks to Dwight Illk, at least some of this has been explained. A cut/paste operation on the 20th resulted in WordPress tagging two enclosures- which broke all sorts of things. I also removed the Numbly number experiment – which you may or may not have noticed, as it seemed to slow things down and start some sort of script.
All of this is a part of the upgrade over the weekend (actually Friday) to the latest edition of WordPress. Let’s hope that this is the worst of the bugs for this round.
I’ve been getting prepared for the trip to Seattle on Wednesday for Gnomedex – this will be Gnomedex 6 – the fifth one that I’ve been able to attend. A pleasant suprise on the Gnomedex page – and a quick look at the Gnomedex page shows a link to the Gnomedex 5 conference. In fact the videos of the main stage presentations from that conference. This year, there are not going to be speakers – or at least that’s Chris Pirillo’s plan – each session will have a session leader, and the majority of the content will be provided by audience Q&A. It’s going to be an interesting approach, and it’s an example of why each year, Gnomedex earns its reputation as the “Unconference” of the tech world.

Inbox Zero: One of the guideposts along the way will be some articles from the excellent site for personal productivity at 43 Folders , specifically an article entitled “My email diet” in the Inbox Zero – Day 1series.
From the 43Folders Inbox Zero process, I’m learning that these tools are no substitute for ruthless triage of escalating questions:
1. What does this message mean to me and why do I care ?
2. What action, if any, does this message require of me ?
3. What’s the most elegant way to close out this message and the nested action it contains ?
These questions were most valuable getting from 400 to 100 items. After that, the default
