    Nosillacast in Action
    by Andrew McCaskey

A generally un-eventful trip back to home base today, other than the famous expression “time to spare -travel by air” – Got loaded onto the final leg of the flight, and then after about 20 mins in un-airconditioned comfort, a replacement aircraft was called into service and we got to take a hike from O’Hare, Terminal 1 -B22 to Terminal2 F6. Good thing that I had all that trade show standing and walking practice earlier in the week.

If you were listening to fellow Tech Podcaster Allison Sheridan at the Nosillacast last week, you will know that she had a chance to meet and speak with Bill Gates about ten days ago at a reception hosted by Wall Street Journal’s Walter Mossberg. Rather than berate Bill on Vista delays, Allison chose to congratulate him on the charitable work at the Gates Foundation. Looks like Bill decided to take Allison’s encouragement to heart and that made for the big news this week. And for good measure, Mossberg came out with a strong endorsement for the Parallels Workstation on the Intel based Mac’s. Who offered that suggestion ? Why Allison Sheridan at the Nosillacast Podcast. I think we have a star – or star maker in our midst.

Listeners will recognize Allison as a recent presenter at a TPN Roundtable – and we have no lesser luminaries lined up for the next one- this Saturday at 1:30 Pacific. This event will be hosted on GotoMeeting which is a windows based application, but we will have the dial in line available and also a skypecast stream running as well.

TechPodcasts Network Josh McAdams at Perlcast.com will take center stage – since he is the ringleader of the Chicago Edition of YAPC – Yet Another PERL Conference – June 26-28. This is YAPC #8. Josh, and some of the presenters and PERL luminaries that will be at that conference will be on the TPN Roundtable. A few days ago I mentioned the second block of topics -Knightwise from the Knightcast Podcast will cover a recent Electronic Music show in Belgium where 30 Mac servers were pulled into a network and cybercafe for a three day conference – over a thousand participants, and indexed some 4000 photos in realtime. That’s going to be segment #2, and then more PERL.

It is going to be a very interesting show – and I hope that you will be able to join us, as always, using GoToMeeting.

Inbox Zero: One of the guideposts along the way will be some articles from the excellent site for personal productivity at 43 Folders , specifically an article entitled “My email diet” in the Inbox Zero – Day 1series.

From the 43Folders Inbox Zero process, I’m learning that these tools are no substitute for ruthless triage of escalating questions:

    1. What does this message mean to me and why do I care ?

    2. What action, if any, does this message require of me ?

    3. What’s the most elegant way to close out this message and the nested action it contains ?

These questions were most valuable getting from 400 to 100 items. After that, the default
Outlook folder “Unread Items” kept the new stuff in one place – just reading headers and sender lines for easy zapping

The free 40 page downloadable e-Book from Rajesh Setty, a fellow Gnomedexer.. “Personal Branding for Technology Professionals”, It’s some heavy reality for anyone in the technology arena – especially the IT field or pure technologists.

Be sure to sign up for our upcoming roundtable. We will be using GoToMeeting. Also, be sure to check out GoToMeeting. Why? Because you can hold meetings right over the Net — from anywhere.
