The gremlins were out and about at the Techpodcast Roundtable Saturday. We were experimenting with the Skypecast audio instead of the dial in audio bridge, plus presenter Adrian Bacon was stuck in traffic. It actually worked well – but for those of us on the presenter side of the mic it was a bit frantic for the first half hour. Todd Cochrane of GeekNewsCentral says it turned out well in the edited video – and that should be up later this week. Some really cool sites recommended by readers and good demos of Second Life and the Tracktion audio editing from Mackie.

It did present us with the opportunity to announce the winners of the recent TPN/U3 Developers Contest, which closed May 15th.

First prize of $500 went toDonald Murphy of PodcastReady for the Podcatcher application called MyPodder. It allows you to plug into any network connected PC and automatically pull down your podcast subscriptions to the USB memory stick – for transfer to your portable player, or plug into a player that uses USB memory as its storage device.

Second prize $250 went to Ian Chen of Essential Skills Consultants for an application called WitchPIM – that combined the I-Ching with a Personal Information Manager in PIM. I guess kind of a way of combining your calendar appointments and finding out if the meeting has good prospects of building business.

We decided that we would reserve the award of the third prize ($100) in another round of the contest, to begin after the summer vacation season. Stay tuned .

You can find the MyPodder application in the U3 Software store for free download at U3.com – and the iChing PIM should be available at U3 shortly.

    Recent Items Mentioned:

Inbox Zero: One of the guideposts along the way will be some articles from the excellent site for personal productivity at 43 Folders , specifically an article entitled “My email diet” in the Inbox Zero – Day 1series.

From the 43Folders Inbox Zero process, I’m learning that these tools are no substitute for ruthless triage of escalating questions:

    1. What does this message mean to me and why do I care ?

    2. What action, if any, does this message require of me ?

    3. What’s the most elegant way to close out this message and the nested action it contains ?

These questions were most valuable getting from 400 to 100 items. After that, the default
Outlook folder “Unread Items” kept the new stuff in one place – just reading headers and sender lines for easy zapping

The free 40 page downloadable e-Book from Rajesh Setty, a fellow Gnomedexer.. “Personal Branding for Technology Professionals”, It’s some heavy reality for anyone in the technology arena – especially the IT field or pure technologists.
