New Melodeo Beta, Inbox Zero Report
    by Andrew McCaskey

If you are listening Saturday morning in most parts of the world, you will be able to join us on the Techpodcast Roundtable at 1:30PM Pacific. You can find log-in instructions at Techpodcasts.com – and join in on an experiment that will have the audio for the event carried by Skype.

Here’s something new – As you recall, Melodeo Mobilcast provides distribution for SDR on the mobile cellphone network at mobilcast.com . Some advance information today from the parent company - Melodeo.com- something big in the works.

They just started today allowing email log-ins in preparation for their beta mode, invitation-only launch. at http://www.melodeo.com . If you follow that link, there is a single box for your email registration. No sign up other than your email. The rest of the story, as they say, remains wrapped in mystery.

I’ve had a chance to observe in an escorted peek behind the curtain and I can assure you that regardless of what type of phone or wireless carrier service you have, you will want to get your email invite into that hopper. When the beta goes live, it’s everyone into the pool – if you can present your invite at the door.

Inbox Zero continues - with a couple of modifications: a folder called !@WaitingFor that gets the entire reply as a BCC – and serves as a quick reminder of updates and items that I am expecting from others. That’s one of the most useful David Allen GTD techniques. The bang (!) and @ simply force it to the top of the Folder sort. I am becoming a lot more careful about what I put in the subject line of my emails. If there is an Inbox Zero practicioner on the other end scanning sender and title- I want to make sure that I make the cut !

    Recent Items Mentioned:

Inbox Zero: One of the guideposts along the way will be some articles from the excellent site for personal productivity at 43 Folders , specifically an article entitled “My email diet” in the Inbox Zero – Day 1series.

From the 43Folders Inbox Zero process, I’m learning that these tools are no substitute for ruthless triage of escalating questions:

    1. What does this message mean to me and why do I care ?

    2. What action, if any, does this message require of me ?

    3. What’s the most elegant way to close out this message and the nested action it contains ?

These questions were most valuable getting from 400 to 100 items. After that, the default
Outlook folder “Unread Items” kept the new stuff in one place – just reading headers and sender lines for easy zapping

The free 40 page downloadable e-Book from Rajesh Setty, a fellow Gnomedexer.. “Personal Branding for Technology Professionals”, It’s some heavy reality for anyone in the technology arena – especially the IT field or pure technologists.
