Day one mobile – and I can see that I have made a tactical error that we will need to live with f or a few days. It surrounds the use of a new microphone- a USB headset, and an attempt to lighten the load on the trip – or a nostalgic step back into the old days of SDR the later part of 2004 with the $7 Walmart headset.
I’m referring to the mobile mic that I decided to take on this trip as the main mic system, forgoing some of the broadcast quality microphone gear and recorder that’s been on the road recently – and I am plagued with both a lack of sidetone with the audio drivers where I can hear what I am recording, and some obvious wind blasting problems popping the p’s -
No time right now to correct that part of the problem -maybe later today. I appreciate your patience.
It’s interesting what has stuck in my mind since the trip to Japan in February. Same airline – now automated checkin – in that they can’t /won’t check you in at the counter – you must go through the kiosk. That’s understandable, and progress for the financially challenged. The ride from Chicago, Row 45 was about like normal for back of the bus, and the $5 snack box was actually a pretty fair value if you do all your snacking at the corner convenience store retail, and don’t buy case sized lots of such from Sam’s Club.
I could even accept the fact that instead of a ticket on heavy paper or cardboard with a stub that could be torn off, we received with the new multi-dimensional barcode on something approximating cigarette paper that told all sort s of things about me. Boarding pass for both legs of the flight, a sticker with the barcode luggage claim, another receipt for the journey.
What do I remember about the experience? There was no envelope to put these things in – Sort of like holding three sheets of tissue paper and a postage stamp as I carried backpack, briefcase, and water bottle to the commuter plane and climbed the ladder.
I think I found the boundary in the cost cutting experience.
