Continued comments of the Office 2.0 Ismael Ghalimi ‘s blog IT Redux that was mentioned yesterday. – “performing most office productivity tasks without having to use any client application other than a web browser.”

I took a look at several more of the apps today. A comprehensive, infinately tailorable dashboard similar to MyYahoo without the sign on and advertising weight is called NetVibes. A whole feast of Web 2.0 services and feeds, including podcasts which download and play without further assistance.

Another interesting browser app is called S5, from CSS guru Eric Meyer which is a web based slide show. It takes the slide show in the Opera browser and extends it in a very compact form. And, it’s freely offered up under Creative Commons, just ready for hacking into form that adds embedded photos, artwork and audio.

All of these just one more more opportunity for creative applications, especially in the utility category in the Techpodcast/U3 Developer contest.
If applications – at least lightweight ones shift to AJAX, caution types like myself would love an automatic application on the USB drive that would, in the background, pull down archive copies of my files – for my piece of mind, or when I wanted to use another heavyweight app from the U3 environment to add tables, or do animations that the lightweight on-line apps can’t handle.

Such an application could be worth up to $500 in cash if your implementation is the top applications in the Techpodcasts / U3 developer conference. Now through May 15th. Download the free U3 Deployment kit from U3, register by email at contest@techpodcast.com , port your application to the to the U3 thumb drive, and submit your app to U3 before the deadline. And, you would retain full rights to have a shareware or paid versions in the U3 catalog.
