You may have heard about The TECH PODCAST / U3 Developer Contest on one or more shows in the Tech Podcast network. It’s a first for this network to involve a major sponsor with substantial cash prizes and exciting technology. , and it’s an exciting opportunity for developers of applications in three contest categories:

* Office Productivity

* Utilities

* Games and Entertainment

The contest will honor the best TPN listener developed application in each category submitted to U3 by a registered TPN listener by May 15, 2006. Winners will be determined by a panel of judges from U3 and the Tech Podcast Network.

To enter, you download the free U3 Deployment kit from U3, register by email at contest@techpodcast.com , port your application to the to the U3 thumb drive with the U3 SDK, and submit your app to U3 before the deadline.

Three cash prizes will be awarded, one per category. The prizes are $500, $250, and $100 plus bragging rights. And, the top prize can occur in any category.

The complete rules and entry details are listed on SDR.com.

In other matters, a fresh battery has restored life to the Geezerbike - a Honda CX-500, vintage 1980. Just enough for a short tour of the neighborhood today, maybe a more substantial road trip later in the week. That may not stir the heart of all SDR listeners, but from the Frappr page photos, it looks like a fair number of listeners are susceptible to springtime motorcycle fever, and I am certainly no exception.

The book that I spoke about on 3/2 is called “Amusing Ourselves to Death” .

The preface to the book gives a good idea of the basic premise, and specific comments on television. (Remember, this was in the early 1980′s .. the hundred channel universe was not yet revealed )

A more lengthy summary is found at WikiPedia.
Interactive Touchscreen Demo: a video of a really cool touchscreen interface – about ten times better than the Bill Gates demo at CES. Hard to describe, about three minutes long.
