U3 in the News Again
Comments
–by Andrew McCaskey
If you are in the Bay Area Thursday evening March 23, there’s an opportunity for you to meet some great folks and talk about.. portable USB applications.
You may remember me talking about U3.com. U3 is the company behind Portable Applications on a USB thumb drive - the pioneer in modifying and qualifying applications to insure that there is no trace left on the host machine – not even a registry entry. Nathan Gold presented details on the U3 drive, discussing portable apps in general, and providing the inside story on the free developer’s kit for U3 during our Tech Podcast Roundtable March 11th.
U3 is in San Jose for the Gamer Developers Conference. If you are available Thursday Evening, March 23 you will have a chance to link up with the U3 folks and meet Nathan in person at 5pm McCormick and Schmicks Seafood Restaurant, 170 South Market Street in San Jose. The team from U3 is particularly interested in meeting developers and those with an interest in USB portable apps, and they have set aside table space for SDR and Techpodcast listeners. Nathan is the GoTo Guy on their developer program, and the deep technical discussions table will be chaired by Claudio Sennhauser, whom I met at CES in January. You do not have to be registered for the Game Developer’s Conference – just be a SDR listener. If you can make it by 5pm Pacific – just ask for the U3 table at the door.
If you are not in San Jose tomorrow evening, please take time to visit the site at U3.com and if you are a developer, register and download their SDK.
Why, you might ask ? well, here’s the advance word: You could be very glad that you did.

CES CD Now Available
The official package of the entire SDR coverage for the CES Convention available in data CD form at the SDR CD Store page.
The book that I spoke about on 3/2 is called “Amusing Ourselves to Death” .
The preface to the book gives a good idea of the basic premise, and specific comments on television. (Remember, this was in the early 1980′s .. the hundred channel universe was not yet revealed )
A more lengthy summary is found at WikiPedia.
Interactive Touchscreen Demo: a video of a really cool touchscreen interface – about ten times better than the Bill Gates demo at CES. Hard to describe, about three minutes long.
