The Six Gotchas Of Skype For Business
Apparently the Skype for Business announced a few days ago might not be ready for prime time. Skype for Business allows businesses to centralize the purchase of credits needed for purchasing SkypeIn, SkypeOut, voicemail, personalization, and third-party conference calling. CMP Techweb cites six reasons. Among them: No reporting, so no way to monitor or prevent, for example, your employees from calling 900 numbers. No attendant or Interactive Voice Recorder- which would redirect calls to other Skype numbers based on user selection. And calls are still encrypted, preventing businesses from ensuring that employees aren’t passing information that might violate regulatory restrictions.
I think that it’s going to be interesting so see how Skype’s commanding market share today stands up to the steady drip drip drip of the open protocol SIP be it SIPphone, Gizmo, and Asterisk PBX in businesses that need functionality. I’m on Skype every day, but grab the Gizmo or SIPphone for interviews – and observe more and more interest among TechPodcastNetwork Affiliates in the Asterisk platform.

The book that I spoke about on 3/2 is called “Amusing Ourselves to Death” .
The preface to the book gives a good idea of the basic premise, and specific comments on television. (Remember, this was in the early 1980′s .. the hundred channel universe was not yet revealed )
A more lengthy summary is found at WikiPedia.
Interactive Touchscreen Demo: a video of a really cool touchscreen interface – about ten times better than the Bill Gates demo at CES. Hard to describe, about three minutes long.
