TPN Roundtable Recordings Coming Soon
–by Andrew McCaskey
You may be hearing this before 1:30PM Pacific time on March 11th. If so, you still have time to join us live at the Techpodcast Roundtable – details at Techpodcast.com – and have a chance of being one of five lucky winners to receive USB portable drives with the U3 application suite, courtesy of U3, Inc.
Nathan Gold will be presenting details on the U3 drive, discussing portable apps in general, and providing the inside story on the free developer’s kit for U3. I first saw this device at the SanDisk booth at CES. The cool thing is, when you unplug the thumb drive, everything:Your data, your apps, and your passwords go with you on that drive. Leaving no trace on machine at the library, airport lounge or hotel lobby machine. U3 is the pioneer in modifying and qualifying applications to insure that there is no trace left on the host machine – not even a registry entry.
Mark McCreary of Podtrac will provide some insight into the business world surrounding podcasting, now that his company has processed data from hundreds of podcasts. I think you’ll find it an interesting program, with chance for live questions either by chat window or on-air.
If you are hearing this after 1:30PM Pacific time Saturday – you will be able to catch the download recording in the next few days.
If you have suggestions on interesting devices or questions – send me an email, and I will see if we can invite an expert on the topic to a future TechPodcast Roundtable.
Don’t forget that you can get Slashdotreview by email, with a built in flash player, arriving in your email inbox each day. Just sign up for the free FeedBlitz service on the site. Plus you can then forward that email, and introduce someone new to podcasting to SDR – without having to explain a thing.
CES CD Now Available
The official package of the entire SDR coverage for the CES Convention available in data CD form at the SDR CD Store page.
The book that I spoke about on 3/2 is called “Amusing Ourselves to Death” .
The preface to the book gives a good idea of the basic premise, and specific comments on television. (Remember, this was in the early 1980′s .. the hundred channel universe was not yet revealed )
A more lengthy summary is found at WikiPedia.
Interactive Touchscreen Demo: a video of a really cool touchscreen interface – about ten times better than the Bill Gates demo at CES. Hard to describe, about three minutes long.

Now a really useful guide to Fixing Windows with Knoppix has appeared online, a reprint of a chapter in the book Hacking Knoppix from Scott Granneman . You might want to plan ahead, print out the chapter and put it alongside a fresh burn of Knoppix STD when you get the call.
I came across Google SMS again today- a way to pull all sorts of useful stuff from Google with the fast SMS from your cellphone.
