SDR listening posts reported on the Frappr page in Shelton, CT, Springfield, MO , and Pittsfield MA. Some nice music linked from the site in Springfield from Charity Angel. If you have not been there recently, the Frappr page has a rolling film strip style slide show of SDR listeners who have put their pin in the map and posted a photo. Always fun when people indicate where and how they listen in. I had kind of assumed a daily commute, but it looks like some folks save them up for the weekend and do catchup with other weekend chores.

No chore this weekend – I hope that you are looking forward to participating in the TechPodcast Live event Saturday at 1:30 Pacific, 4:30 Eastern. I realize that’s a bit late for some listeners in the UK – but I think it will be worth it. Two guest speakers – Mark McCreary from Podtrac, and Nathan Gold from U3.

As the U3 web site explains:
” U3 is the company behind the innovative platform that transforms USB flash drives from simple storage devices into USB smart drives that make software programs, personal preferences, passwords and settings, and files more portable, personal, and protected. In short, portable apps. ” Some analysts project sales over 80 million USB flash drives worldwide in 2005..and growing to over 130 million USB flash drives sold in 2007 — that’s a lot of potential U3 devices! They have a developer program, and if the questions move in that direction which they explain as more repackaging than redesigning, you will be able to create a working U3 compatible prototype in a matter of hours or days using the U3 software developer kit.

Podtrac is, as I mentioned yesterday – a major player in the business side of podcasting. But, you may not know how important the ten minutes or so that you invested in the listener surveys on SDR or other Tech Podcast programs are to our daily operations and plans. Mark will be able to share some of trends that are revealed in the information that’s coming in from hundreds of different podcasts, and will be able to offer some predictions on how, and why podcasts are different, and will be different from terrestrial and satellite radio. And we might agree, that’s a good thing.

Welcome to new listeners on FeedBlitz - Superstevo, JulieBlue and Microair . Some of you may know that Feedblitz is a free service that delivers each day’s podcast and page by email – which is more convenient for many listeners in an office situation.

We continue to be available on Networked Series II Tivo. There’s more Tivo News, as you know – and it looks like by Series I Lifetime will become a rare bird. I hope that it continues to have a long and productive life, since it keeps the monthly fee for the larger Series II more reasonable. If you cannot find SDR on your networked Series II Tivo, you might need to sign up for the free firmware upgrade if it has not been rolled out in your area.

Hope you can join us Saturday – and don’t forget to register at Techpodcasts.com through the link on SDR. Reason being, those who pre-register will be in a preferred position for the drawings for U3 USB Thumb Drives, donated by U3, Inc.

This Saturday March 11, the continuing series on the Tech Podcast Roundtable. The event is at 1:30PM Pacific – 4:30 Eastern. One of our special guests will be Nathan Gold of U3 Corporation. U3 is the pioneer in modifying and qualifying applications to insure that there is no trace left on the host machine – not even a registry entry. U3 is also donating some sample units – and that’s why you’ll want to register in advance at Techpodcasts.com for a live drawing for those samples. Pre-registered attendees get, quite frankly, an unfair advantage.

Don’t forget that you can get Slashdotreview by email, with a built in flash player, arriving in your email inbox each day. Just sign up for the free FeedBlitz service on the site. Plus you can then forward that email, and introduce someone new to podcasting to SDR – without having to explain a thing.

CES CD Now Available

The official package of the entire SDR coverage for the CES Convention available in data CD form at the SDR CD Store page.

The book that I spoke about on 3/2 is called “Amusing Ourselves to Death” .

The preface to the book gives a good idea of the basic premise, and specific comments on television. (Remember, this was in the early 1980′s .. the hundred channel universe was not yet revealed )

A more lengthy summary is found at WikiPedia.
Interactive Touchscreen Demo: a video of a really cool touchscreen interface – about ten times better than the Bill Gates demo at CES. Hard to describe, about three minutes long.

Now a really useful guide to Fixing Windows with Knoppix has appeared online,
