SDR Music Voting by Listeners

Here’s what’s new this week: The SDR Music Vote Playlist. First, new garageband.com bands and songs are nominated by SDR listeners. Then listeners select their top pick for band and song to be played sometime that week. Fresh news, plus Fresh music.

Here is the link to the page.

I got the experimental voting system created and in place Saturday. It is a basic survey to find out what you think about songs and artists suggested by other SDR listeners and the plans are to feature those songs selected by listeners several times per week and add them to the playlist rotation. As an experiment, it has been quickly crafted without hotlinks or autoplay for the songs. I have to ask you to go back to the site and cut/paste the selections into another Firefox tab and listen from there.

You can vote for one music track per artist or group, and then vote for the group that you think should be at the top of the playlist this week. (You can also skip entries, if you’d like).

To keep things on the up and up, the order of artist names and song titles may be shuffled - so you really have to listen to the song and get artist and title. If you have to stop midway, you can come back to the point where you left off.

The artists are more or less in the same order as the page on the site, arranged three to a page. They are offered as submitted by listeners, and have not been checked as Family Friendly. They will be checked before they are played on air.

If you’d like to add garageband artists and songs, please email in the format shown on the site.

Thanks again to Dennis Anthony of York PA who got this whole thing started with an email late last week.

Don’t forget that you can get Slashdotreview by email, with a built in flash player, arriving in your email inbox each day. Just sign up for the free FeedBlitz service on the site. Plus you can then forward that email, and introduce someone new to podcasting to SDR – without having to explain a thing.

The book that I spoke about on 3/2 is called “Amusing Ourselves to Death” .

The preface to the book gives a good idea of the basic premise, and specific comments on television. (Remember, this was in the early 1980′s .. the hundred channel universe was not yet revealed )

Interactive Touchscreen Demo: a video of a really cool touchscreen interface – about ten times better than the Bill Gates demo at CES. Hard to describe, about three minutes long.

Hope that you will be able to have a look at the Wombat Page at the SDR site The WOM Badge is a new way for bloggers to tag and display a badge of other blogs or podcasts. Ranging in size from the discrete Podcast411 to the Bumper Sticker from Libsyn, they are are kind of fun -and if you have a badge from WordofBlog.net let me know and I’ll be glad to add it.

Now a really useful guide to Fixing Windows with Knoppix has appeared online,
a reprint of a chapter in the book Hacking Knoppix from Scott Granneman . You might want to plan ahead, print out the chapter and put it alongside a fresh burn of Knoppix STD when you get the call.

I came across Google SMS again today- a way to pull all sorts of useful stuff from Google with the fast SMS from your cellphone.
