Day’s Tour: Birthdays, Blogging and Bittorrent
–by Andrew McCaskey

Mobile today and tomorrow on a happy mission, to celebrate my Dad’s birthday.

He’s 90 years old this coming Saturday and, to brag a little bit, is arguably the world’s oldest blogger. A writer by trade, (newspaper, radio and advertising) he’s produced more or less 600 words per day every day since age 16. Including World War II . You can find his story and blog at topic.blogspot.com along with his email address amccsr {at} adelphia.net if you’d like to send along some greetings.

Thanks to a loyal listener on the bittorrent front, Dwight Illk. He’s been providing a seed for the feed the past two days or so, kicking off the swarm in the presence of some temporary problems on the bittorrent feed. A phone call from a dedicated listener is always appreciated, no matter what the hour.

As you know, SDR has had bittorrent distribution since the very beginning. It’s always in place and has served well during some hosting outages, due in part to loyalty and support of fans like Dwight. I think very important to demonstrate a substantial non-infringing use of a great technology. As we have for well over a year.

With luck we hope to be adding another distribution channel in the next few days.. to make it as convenient as possible to have SDR available to you when and where you want it. By whatever means,, thanks for listening and spreading the word.

Don’t forget that you can get Slashdotreview by email, with a built in flash player, arriving in your email inbox each day. Just sign up for the free FeedBlitz service on the site. Plus you can then forward that email, and introduce someone new to podcasting to SDR – without having to explain a thing.

Totally unrelated, but really fun is a site found later in the day: a video of a really cool touchscreen interface – about ten times better than the Bill Gates demo at CES. Hard to describe, about three minutes long.

Hope that you will be able to have a look at the Wombat Page at the SDR site, It was introduced a few days ago. The WOM Badge is a new way for bloggers to tag and display a badge of other blogs or podcasts. Ranging in size from the discrete Podcast411 to the Bumper Sticker from Libsyn, they are are kind of fun -and if you have a badge from WordofBlog.net let me know and I’ll be glad to add it.

Now a really useful guide to Fixing Windows with Knoppix has appeared online,
a reprint of a chapter in the book Hacking Knoppix from Scott Granneman . You might want to plan ahead, print out the chapter and put it alongside a fresh burn of Knoppix STD when you get the call.

I came across Google SMS again today- a way to pull all sorts of useful stuff from Google with the fast SMS from your cellphone.
