New Techpodcasts.com and Google SMS

Lots of frantic weekend work – especially on the part of Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central actually capping off about a months worth of work – came together late Sunday at the new Techpodcast.com site, new home of the TechPodcast Network.
Each Network show will continue to have it’s own site and hosting. The Techpodcast.com site is one central location for the Techpodcast Network, with links to both members and affiliates. A new feature on the site is a group of forums for listener comments and suggestions for the TPN Roundtable events, Membership information and commercial opportunities.
Each Affiliate page features abbreviated show notes for recent epidsodes, and the Podtrac player so that you can sample the TPN podcast directly. It’s then a short trip across the page to a one click subscribe for iTunes, Yahoo, Odeo or the direct RSS information for other podcatchers. I hope that you will be able to stop by and check out the site, and that you will let me know what you think about the new digs.
I meant to get more done on the networked Tivo today, but got day job distracted and did not get much done beyond pulling the Tivo Desktop and mounting a directory of mp3 tunes from one of the basement boxes. Still, the tunes sounded very good through the TV surround sound – but I’m still not thrilled with the directory listing and mode of operation. However, playlists seem to be supported, and there may be some hope yet.
I came across Google SMS again today- a way to pull all sorts of useful stuff from Google with the fast SMS from your cellphone. For example send an SMS to 46645 with a structured query and within a few moments, your reply arrives from the Googleplex. W 60173 will deliver the weather for Schaumburg, IL zip 60173. Then you are just a short query away from Business listings, Residential listings, Driving Directions, Movie showtimes, Stock quotes, product prices through Froogle, and a lot more.
Old hat to most listeners, I imagine – but even if you have used the service before, try it again on some of the more challenging tasks like definitions, translation of French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish from or to English.
