Motorola RAZR Replacement *2
–by Andrew McCaskey
Lightning – or at least cell phone failure – can strike twice. Within a week.
I’ve really enjoyed using the Motorola RAZR for almost a year – but the past few weeks, I’ve had a string of bad luck. The replacement procedure that went so well last week seems to have set some sort of precedant – and over the weekend, the replacement phone went belly up.
The first few days after I downloaded the Opera Mini browser, it was working great – on cellphone, Opera and on Melodio – and I was figuring that some of the erratic behavior that was creeping into Opera was due to the fact that all of the testing was on the fly. I had never sat down for an hour and concentrated on seeing just exactly how the thing worked. I’d been able to type in arbitrary URLs, search around, pull up stuff – but then on complicated pages I was getting lost.
By Saturday, though, it was apparent that something was seriously wrong – getting the equivalent of the Motorola BSOD – a connect for a few seconds, inbound or outbound – then a white screen then things got really quiet.
Have to commend Cingular - other than the 20 minute wait for a connect on a Monday morning and the aggravation of entering my phone number three separate times to three different call directors – they quickly concluded that the SMS patch was not going to make it, and so we’ll try replacement #2 in a few days. What was curious is that there was no way – that they would tell me, at least, to find out what firmware revision was actually in the phone – kind of an “About RAZR” command. If replacement #1 was a refurbished unit, it was certainly not apparent – and hope that #2 is updated and ready to go. I had gotton very spoiled with gmail access on the phone.
