Bits and Pieces, with a Helping of Despair
–by Andrew McCaskey
Thanks to Kyle Nishioka and William Kempthorne for their continued underwriting support for SDR.

Thanks to – Sebastian Prooth of the The Director’s Chair podcast for his note and remarks for Annette’s coverage during the recent Japan trip.

A Texas sized Barbeque photo on the Frappr page from Luis Sanchez. As I understand , some if not most of these are set up to roast a cow. Andrew Rock fires off his self photo with some sort of Infrared based controller while JBones in George, IA prepares for some seasonal wind therapy next summer on his Victory motorcycle. Thanks to all who are sending in Frappr pins and photos, and it’s fun while you are there to click on some of the large format pictures for other details scattered around the room or shot.

Thanks to all who joined us for the Techpodcast Network Live Event Roundtable this past Saturday. I was on a family trip and ended up joining a bit late from the Panera Bread in Kokomo – but it looked like an excellent turnout and program content package – particularly on the problem of cataloging and correcting digital images of all types. As I mentioned Friday, catalog, search and archieval issues are a critical part of the picture.. so to speak.

A bit of fun floated to the top of del.icio.us this weekend. You may have been a fan of the organization Despair.com - I think Texas based – with a set of products called Demotivators. . They are, of course a send up of the high quality printed and framed motivational posters adorning, if not cubicles, then at least hallways and break rooms across this great land.

In their introduction, a few words of wisdom:

So how is it that a multi-billion dollar industry thrives through the sale of motivational commodities and services? Because, in our world of instant gratification, people desperately want to believe that there are simple solutions to complex problems. And when desperation has disposable income, market opportunities abound.

They have added a viewing wall of all of their great posters, as well as links to their their book of business management philosophy “The Art of Demotivation” .
