Brian Kingston Track: Sons And Lovers [4:07] |
| Comments |
As the song says, “Back home again, in Indiana. “ Some fast calculations have put four days in 2006 not mobile somewhere, three of those with the flu – on top of the holiday mobile editions before the New Year. So I am really glad to be in from this latest trip, which put me in Japan on business meetings for the day job most of last week. My heartfelt thanks, of course, to Annette Thomson, who normally joins us on the Weekend Summary edition of SDR. Annette gets the weekend off and the thanks of host and listeners for her work on the show for the past week.
Thanks and a tip of the hat to Curtis Stinson one of our underwriters plus the mysterious Lonely Bob, now located in Japan as announced earlier.
The one ArsTechnica article on the latest moves by RIAA to create something called “customary history use” is unbelieveable .
Briefly here’s the pitch: If you invent something that “. . does anything heretofore unheard of with the digital content that it receives, then it’s illegal. And if it does anything “customary” that could also possibly lead to unauthorized redistribution, then it’s also illegal. ” This article deserves a full read, and then another check to the EFF to support the legal battle against such nonsense.
The other note – and two thumbs WAY up – is for the Slingbox that I installed in a last minute panic last week before the trip to Japan. Absolutely great performance from the hotel in Japan, from the WiFi in the airport, and adequate enough performance for a demo minute or two for colleagues through the VPN, multiple firewalls, routers and other magic of the company’s network. If you are ever in the business travel mode and want to keep up with local sports, news, or just access your Tivo/satellite/DVR or whatever to watch your content, this box is just great.
Also, we’d like to put out a reminder for the January 28th Techpodcast roundtable. It’s free and open to the first 200 people who register.
