Still working my way through this cold and flu – just in time for a long trip to Japan this week. Nothing like starting out the week getting on the plane tired and cranky.
    Slingbox
One bright spot may be the new Slingbox. I just did not get the Slingbox concept until the demo at CES, when I realized that in addition to the obvious business travel application that it would have a daily use on the laptop throughout the house in case there was an uncontrollable desire to watch TV on the screen porch, garage or some such place. I’ve been pleasantly surprised how easy the set up has been, and think that I have the right ports open on the router – so will have a chance to see how this will work.

Long term listeners to SDR have heard a number of mobile productions. but this coming week’s combination of time zone displacement, travel, and day job responsiblities, have led to a call for volunteers. And in a two person production team, the volunteer is relatively easy to identify. This coming week the winner and bright spot will be Annette Thomson - weekend co-host who will be handling most of the on-air duties for SlashdotReview. I feel sure the show is left in good hands.

One news item that I will re-direct your attention to is the Predictions for 2006 by Robert X Cringley, Some very interesting speculation that with the Intel based Mac and some selective looking the other way that Apple may have a community based way to get OSX onto an additional three million machines in 2006 , and will be “shocked, just shocked” when it happens.

Thanks to a number of listeners who have commented on the CES coverage. It seems that a number of other attendees ended up with the same show bug. Also an email and link from a regular listener in Thailand, who was as best I can tell, within an aisle or two of me at the Sands, exhibiting for his company Norhtec Microservers , with examples for some of his work for PaybyTouch.com . He would have made a great addition to the interview list – even from the Bill Gates opening keynote there was a lot of buzz around biometric authentication.

Next year, we will make sure to get SDR listener companies on the interview list for CES.

    Recent Links and Announcements:

A new addition to the site at SDR.com , an array of MobilCast Qualified handsets. The engineers at Melodeo run handsets through the mill and qualify them for the MobilCast service. The list changes every few days, as Sony Ericsson and Nokia enhance and obsolete various model numbers. I’ll try to keep it up to date.
