Happy New Year – and what a new year it will be. We are starting off with a major event, our first live coverage of a major trade show from the Consumer Electronics Show, in Las Vegas.

If you read the site over the weekend, you know that Todd Cochrane from Geek News Central will be joining me for week long coverage of CES in a series of Special shows in addition to the normal program. Starting Thursday, there will be at least one additional show per day exclusively on CES topics. If all holds together, there will be coverage from the floor, interviews with exhibitors and attendees, and photos that will show up on the site. Day job conflicts do not permit Annette Thomson from covering this event, but rest assured that as future shows develop she will be a part of the live coverage.

If you want to have the latest as things are published, go to SDR.com now and sign up for the FeedBlitz – it will bring material directly to your email within about ten minutes of the post of photos and interviews. Of course, all the audio podcasts will be provided directly on the regular RSS feedpoints, but as things strike me as interesting, I hope to provide photos and materials throughout the day.

The event officially begins Thursday, January 4 - but as flights permitted, it made more sense for me to actually travel today, Monday – and get settled in over the next day or two – and see what parts of the mobile podcast rig have been forgotten.

It has been about five years since my last trade show in Las Vegas, so there’s a new sense of adventure in the trip. CES promises about 2500 vendors- so I’ll make no pretense to an objective sense of what’s going on. It’s just a random walk – and I think will be a grand adventure – and a great chance to meet other podcasters and bloggers.

The Gnomedex / Lockergnome contingent will be here in force, and at least two of the evenings there is a Web 2.0 “Unconference” that I will try to check out at least one night.

Also, please don’t forget to take the Listener Survey, at the upper right sidebar on the site. Thanks !

It is going to be an exciting week and New Year. Glad that you’ve made the choice to listen along with SDR.

    Recent Links and Announcements:

A new addition to the site at SDR.com , an array of MobilCast Qualified handsets. The engineers at Melodeo run handsets through the mill and qualify them for the MobilCast service. The list changes every few days, as Sony Ericsson and Nokia enhance and obsolete various model numbers. I’ll try to keep it up to date.

Thanks to Pete Murry of Laporte PA for a video clip that he posted as his photo on the Frappr page. Right next to Rob’s dignified photo. If you are a fan of the TV show NCIS, this is a DiNozo moment from the animal world. It is worth the trip to the page, watch the penguin carefully.

About a year ago I found a great WGBH Boston TV program that I have linked before about the music business called “The Way the Music Died” If you want to really understand why indy music is a part of SDR, take time to stream the program on the site.

Steve Holden, always on the alert, has forwarded a link for a snow blower that should be featured on an entire episode of Home Improvement. Binford Manufacturing would love this one: Bona Fide designed from the ground up around a big block Chevy V-8 : The manufacturer’s quote “.you¹ll never get bored with the job as the 454 cubic inch big block Chevrolet V8 produces 412 horsepower, 430 foot pounds of torque and can throw snow 50 feet at just 3500 rpm . Plus heated grips and turns on a dime. Links and a photo on the site for those interested. Still can’t figure out how a podcaster in San Diego has such in depth knowledge..
