A case of mild sticker shock when I paid the Cingular bill – since I had been testing the Mobilcast service. Cingular has “all you can eat” data service for an additional $19.95, and I am going to that plan pronto…

Had a note from follow TPN member Steve Holden of Tech Rag Tearouts and TechNews Radio. Trading emails the other day, I said that I had to go off and fix the Snowblower. San Diego based Steve claimed he had no idea what I was talking about – even though he enjoys the side benefit of all that snow that will transform into Indiana lakes when he decides to visit. Today, he offered the additional insult of the latest from Phil Torrone at MAKE magazine, a feature on how to make your very own snowmaking machine. Not much use for it here – the Indiana ski areas already have enough snow, at least on the big hills with the hundred foot drops – but the pipes and valves look real handy for directing the heat from the electric hair dryer to those critical snowblower components. Just the ticket.

Reminds me of one of our restaurant meals here years ago – we met some friends as the 30 knot winds had the snow blowing horizonally. My buddy Jim said ” A Minnesotan would not go out on a night like this” . I agreed, although somewhat puzzled. Jim finished the thoght: “A Minnesotan would wait until it started to drift“. My first introduction to the lore of the midwest.

Thanks to those of you who are taking time to fill out the new Podcast Survey on the site at SDR.com. Both veteran and new listeners are welcome. As I have said before, this survey is really, really important in determining steps to be made in the new year. If you haven’t taken the time yet, please visit the site and go through the questions.

    Recent Links and Announcements:

A new addition to the site at SDR.com , an array of MobilCast Qualified handsets. The engineers at Melodeo run handsets through the mill and qualify them for the MobilCast service. The list changes every few days, as Sony Ericsson and Nokia enhance and obsolete various model numbers. I’ll try to keep it up to date.

Thanks to Pete Murry of Laporte PA for a video clip that he posted as his photo on the Frappr page. Right next to Rob’s dignified photo. If you are a fan of the TV show NCIS, this is a DiNozo moment from the animal world. It is worth the trip to the page, watch the penguin carefully.

About a year ago I found a great WGBH Boston TV program that I have linked before about the music business called “The Way the Music Died” If you want to really understand why indy music is a part of SDR, take time to stream the program on the site.
