Thanks to Kyle Nishioka for his underwriting support for Slashdot Review.
Hello to listener named asterisk that has signed up for the FeedBlitz version of SDR that arrives each morning via email. The reason I mentioned him by name is that his email was coming in as undeliverable but corrected itself. Forty years of technology has taught me to be suspicious of spontaneous healings – so if it is still a problem, please send me an email.
If you missed the Wall Street Journal article that gives the full scoop on our newest distribution partner, Melodeo Mobilcast, it’s linked on the site at SDR. I’ve got the Bluetooth music headset on the Christmas wish list here, all the better to listen to podcasts with using their podcast via cellphone service. The Flash demo on the site will explain it better than I can, and in a lot shorter time.
The first good bike photo has turned up on the Frappr page, courtesy of Paul in Toronto. That corresponds to the vintage 1980 Honda CX-500 sometimes seen tooling around Indiana and Michigan. I rode all the way to Sturgis on that bike. That would be Sturgis, Michigan. Hello to Markus, in Bavaria and others having fun on the map page. Something new – apparently added by Frappr – a linked map is created for you as SDR listener, and your friends can post pins there as well.
A fun time learning about Myth TV on the live event this past weekend from The Home NetworkHelp Podcast. Christiaan should have the video up in a few days. I’m to the point where I have Tux sitting in front of the TV, no mean accomplishment with a Serial ATA drive install.
There’s a new survey up on the site from Podtrac. We had Mark McCreary as one of our guests at the recent Techpodcast live event, and he let slip that they’ve had over 10,000 listeners complete the survey for all of the podcasts that they are working with. When you complete the survey, you will have an opportunity to also to also join in an evaluation board through Podtrac and really make a difference in podcasting’s future direction.
Melodeo Mobilcast added two new phones this week the Sony Ericsson w800 and w900. These are just some of the new mobile phone handsets that can receive SDR and content such as NPR, CNN, and a growing number of podcasts directly, without a subscription. I’ll get them added to the page at SDR where we keep the list of phones that can receive podcasts. Mobilcast uses progressive download so the podcast you select starts playing in about 15 seconds. There is a demo at SlashdotReview that will give you a 45 second class, and make you an expert, even if you don’t have a new phone .Yet. It is VERY cool.
Please take our Survey (at the upper right of this page). This is a critical part of the future of Slashdot Review. Thanks !
Recent Links and Announcements:
A new addition to the site at SDR.com , an array of MobilCast Qualified handsets. The engineers at Melodeo run handsets through the mill and qualify them for the MobilCast service. The list changes every few days, as Sony Ericsson and Nokia enhance and obsolete various model numbers. I’ll try to keep it up to date.
